Assignment
  • If you currently watch television, observe your television habits for a few days. Notice why you turn on the TV. Notice how you feel when you start watch TV and notice how you feel when you stop. Notice what kinds of shows you choose. Reflect on why you choose those shows.
If you don't currently watch television email me.
  • After spending a few days thinking about this and watching yourself, please answer the following question in great detail and depth, citing examples: Why do you watch TV?
  • After you write this reflection, please set it aside for a day and then read it over, correcting mistakes and making sure that you came to some sort of conclusion. This is a serious essay. In order to get full points, you need to have engaged deeply with the question, seriously question yourself, your behavior, and your motivations.
The rubric for grading this essay is as follows:
7 points total
  • 1 point for a creative title
  • 1 point for a robust and thorough introduction
  • 3 points for explaining why you watch TV (or a substitution you and I have agreed upon) with depth and thoroughness.
  • 1 point for a robust and thorough conclusion
  • 1 point for a paper free of obvious errors--it seems clear from reading it that you wrote it, then edited it. This isn't about correct grammar. Its about glaring typos, etc. This is a point for taking care in what you submit. Putting effort in, respecting your own ability enough to go over what you turn in and make sure its the best it can be.
